Welcome

The Mead Hall

I provide Genealogy services, along with having done extensive work on my own family tree, and I frequently encounter truly fascinating stories of remarkable ancestors. I thought I would start this site as a place where I can share some of the interesting family stories I have found, and others can do the same. I chose the name, The Mead Hall, because of my studies in Medieval Literature and Linguistics. In Medieval times, the Mead Hall was the seat of government, community rec hall, banquet and party space, schoolhouse and church, and general community gathering space. It was where guests were welcomed, and stories were told. One of the favorite themes of the storyteller was the exploits of ancestors. So, welcome, honored guest. Pull up a mead bench, and share stories of the human family. After all, science has proven that we are all, genetically, related, so a stranger is just a cousin you haven't met yet!

FEATURES

These are stories of some of the ancestors from the nexus of Slusser/Potts/ McDermott/Dewey and Roston/Gordon/ Raser/Nissly, and its many branches.

My intention, here, is to provide a repository of family photos, and an archive of our shared visual history. Check back for additions and updates.

Every now and then, I come across the picture of an ancestor who has an uncanny resemblance to a modern relative. You will find those comparisons here.

This is the Future History in the Making feature- a place to highlight he accomplishments of our amazing young people- our family's future ancestors!

The town of Mathenay, France, where the Matheny ancestors of the Potts line came from.

Here you will find genealogy & family stories of people I have done work for, but does not (yet) tie to my family tree, as well as info useful for genealogy research.
